Hello CAPED and Happy Spring,
There is so much happening, it is amazing to see how quickly this year is speeding by. It is clear, over the last six months, that CAPED has awakened and there is a lot of interest, changes, and opportunity for involvement across the state.
We have been busy getting underway with our planning for the upcoming Spring Drive-In Training- April 26, 2019 8:30am-2:30pm at Long Beach City College. Registration is open now. For only $60, you will spend the day learning, growing, and connecting with your CAPED friends and families. Feel free to invite non- CAPED members including; Department of Rehabilitation, high school colleagues, adult education, four years and community colleges. All are welcome! This is community building for passionate professionals who serve adults with disabilities. The agenda is posted online at www.caped.io as well as a link to registration. Presentations include topics on Brain Injury and Blind Rehabilitation Programs with VA, C2C Tools for Transition and Work, Assistive Technology: Providing (In-House) Accessible Digital Math Notes, Working with Sign Language Interpreters, Learning Disability Business Meeting and Roundtable Discussion, North Orange’s Exploration of the Mental Health Needs of Students, and Passing the Touch and Fanning the Flames: A CAPED Past Presidents Panel. Don’t miss this great opportunity to connect and learn with CAPED in Southern California.
Also in the planning stages, is the CAPED 2019 Conference in Long Beach, California October 11th-15th, 2019. The call for proposals has been sent out so we encourage you to take a moment to think about the connections that you have made with professionals in the disability community, to consider your individual impact on student success, and your part on bringing forth systemic change within your campus community. CAPED members are creating new pathways in the disability field that allow students with disabilities to continue to achieve their goals. The theme is “Many Rivers, One Ocean” Shinnyo-en represents the annual confluence of our collective rivers of wisdom, innovation, and compassion. Our waters flow together as we gain in knowledge and strength and move forward with a selfless commitment to shape the future for our students. We encourage you to start thinking now about what you could share and also mark your calendars and join us in October in Long Beach for a Conference you will not want to miss. The Board members will be meeting next month and again this Summer for our Bi-Annual Summer Advance as we continue to advance the CAPED organization and support the state of California and the professionals that work so hard to advance the field of disability services and support across the CSU, UC, and Community Colleges.
We look forward to seeing you all together soon and hope you find the Communique as valuable as I do; as it helps our organization and field hear from the field and learn from others as we strengthen the services for the students we serve.

Although we have a strong focus on the Conference, CAPED is a volunteer organization that serves the membership and supports the field of disability service year-round.
