When can I apply for CAPED Scholarships?

Scholarship applications become available online on May 1st and accepted through August 31st. 

When are CAPED Scholarships due?

The deadline for CAPED Scholarship Application submissions is August 31st at 11:59pm PST. There are no deadline extensions, no exceptions. Applicants are encouraged to apply early. Technical support for submission difficulties will not be addressed outside of regular business hours.

Where can I view scholarship general eligibility requirements?

Most college students who participate in their school’s disability/access support office will be eligible. Students must plan to enroll in the upcoming fall term and have the minimum required college credits.

What scholarships are available and where can I view scholarship descriptions?

CAPED offers 11 different scholarships. All applicants must meet the general eligibility requirements. However, some scholarships have additional requirements, which will be listed next to the scholarship on the application.

What happens to my application once I submit it? When will I hear back from the Review Committee?

Scholarship applications are reviewed by the CAPED Scholarship Review Committee. Scholarship award winners will be notified at the beginning of October.

Applicants not selected for an award will be notified via email in October. There is no appeal process and further inquiries regarding award decisions will not be addressed.

Can I apply for a CAPED Scholarship if I am a high school senior?

Applicants must have completed at least 6 undergraduate semester or 8 quarter units from a public or private California college/university.

Can I apply for more than one CAPED Student Scholarship?

You may apply for up to a maximum of 3 scholarships. However, selected applicants will only receive 1 scholarship award. Only 1 CAPED Scholarship Application is necessary to apply to multiple scholarships. If you are applying to multiple scholarships, please click and select up to 3 scholarships in your online application.

How do I know if I qualify for the scholarship as a person with a disability?

Any student with a verified disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities, as defined in the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, who is enrolled in an accredited California university, community college, or private college is eligible to apply for CAPED Scholarships.

Please note qualified students must also participate in their campus Disability/Accessibility Support Program as well as meet the eligibility and scholarship specific requirements for which you are applying.

What disability verification do I need to submit?

A Disability Certification Form must be completed by your campus Disability/Accessibility Support Program/Office and attached to your application. A link to download this form is in the application.

Note: We cannot accept any other form of disability verification. 

What should the Letter of Recommendation include?

The letter of recommendation must be written by a college classroom instructor/professor describing your academic achievements and your ability to meet your scholastic responsibilities. The letter of recommendation needs to be signed by the person writing it (electronic signatures will be accepted).

Note: We cannot accept letters of recommendation via email. It must be included as an attachment with your application.  

How will my Scholarship Application be evaluated?

Applicants are considered for award based on a combination score from GPA, essays, and letter of recommendation. Failure to complete any part of the application will result in automatic disqualification.
