Genuine, traditional, yarn-dyed Madras fabrics were woven on hand-looms, and worn as men’s knee-length, waist wraps. Made of light-weight Indian cotton and silk, the colorful wraps, tied around the waist were, and still are, popular in coastal lands stretching from the Horn of Africa to the Isle of Bali. Long before shorts and boxers, Madras fabrics were the best choice for hot and humid climates because they absorbed moisture and perspiration without feeling wet and clammy and because these fabrics dried very quickly, particularly the fine Madras silks. Soon, even Himalayan mountain climbers found these silks to be effective, suitable and comfortable as under-layers for frigid temperatures. Madras silk of the Mulberry quality is light, soft, smooth and supple. This lightweight silk feels like second skin with a tactile feel and touch like no other fabric. The three-panel construction of the men’s boxers allows for roomy comfort. Other features include meticulous tailoring, a full-sized fly front with a single button opening, mother-of pearl buttons, and an easy-fit elasticized waist. Extra button included.
