Dear Colleagues,
It is my pleasure to write this welcoming message for the Fall 2021 Edition of the Communique. A huge thank you to our Editor in Chief, Sofia Gianoutsos for curating this wonderful Communique.
We are proud to bring you a wonderful array of articles from a discussion around identity issues for the deaf and hard of hearing students, a guide for transition of individuals with disabilities, priority registration tips, to a guide for supporting new directors from our very own CAPED Mentorship Program. So many great ideas in a beautifully designed easily accessible E-booklet!
Just in case you are new to CAPED, I wanted to share a little history: CAPED became official with its first set of bylaws in 1974. Established on October 8, 1974, CAPED is the longest standing professional organization for the disability community in postsecondary education in the country. I am so honored to be president of such a longstanding, powerful, and engaged association that supports our students with disabilities through accommodation, counseling, advocacy, and social justice!
In closing, I want to share that our Communique hosts a wealth of information that all on the national level can use for professional development. Please consider writing an article for next year’s Communique and please enjoy this Fall 2021 edition of the Communique.
