On Saturday, October 20th, the APE CIG group met for their Annual Pre-Conference Meeting. We had about 30 APE instructors in attendance from various California Community Colleges. We spent the morning doing a virtual tour of Santa Rosa JC Adapted Facility and hearing more about the program there. We then had a round table discussion regarding the future of APE in our Community Colleges and how to best support one another since most of us are the only APE instructors on our campuses. We enjoyed lunch together with continuing conversations from our round table discussion. In the afternoon we were visited by a student from Santa Rosa JC who shared about his story and experience with stem cell treatment. Later in the afternoon, Lucinda Aborn, came to discuss how budgeting is allocated from the Chancellor’s Office to DSPS and to APE. It was helpful to be able to discuss what has been going on at the different campuses with a subject matter expert. The day concluded with a CIG meeting discussing: grading, curriculum, outreach, networking, and the APE Handbook revisions. We also discussed having a drive-by in the spring and are discussing that further.
